First week of Kindergarten complete!

(skirt and hairbow made by me)

We survived the first week of Kindergarten!!!  So proud of my little girl.  We are all very happy for a 3 day weekend to recuperate and get ready to do it all over again next week.  Fundraisers have already started (siblings / grandparents / good friends - please message me for info LOL) and we've been given the "school spirit" calendar.  At least two Fridays each month the kids are encouraged to dress up... it's everything from western wear to favorite college t-shirt to story book characters.  Needless to say I'm going to have a blast with it!

Happy Labor Day!

Kindergarten Day 2

Day 2 of Kindergarten complete!  My silly girl wore a circle skirt made by me along with the matching headband.  Rest time was a little bit of an issue again today but not terribly so as she came home with the color white and a smilie face.

She is quite exhausted so dinner was a fight and a half.  I'm thinking that this is probably not a good week to try and introduce new foods... I'll probably lay off and only cook things I know she'll eat for the rest of the week (and probably next week too).

Two more days of school and then she is out Monday for Labor Day.   With the big changes this week we decided it would be best to just stay home and chill for the holiday weekend, but I'm sure we'll check out some more of the local antique shops (one of the ones downtown has 3 stories - we still have two left to explore!) and maybe go for a hike in Cameron Park.

Mia's first day of Kindergarten!

Mia had a super fun first day of Kindergarten!  She came home full of stories... everything from playing blocks to the boy that is a "mess maker" (evidently he didn't listen and made messes).  Each day the teacher sends home a calendar marked with a color and a symbol to show the student's behavior.  Today Mia came home with white (the best color) and a smilie face (the second best symbol) - evidently she got some points taken off for talking out of turn and for not laying still at rest time.  She did,  however, learn how to spell her entire name - both verbally and writing.  She is super excited about going back tomorrow.

I held it together until I was walking away from her room.  She didn't have an issue at all saying a quick good bye and getting to work.  I was worried that she hadn't understood that I was leaving and would stop coloring, look up, see me gone and spazz out.  But nope - she did fantastic.  I didn't end up attending the BooHoo Breakfast for the K moms because I couldn't stand the thought of being in a room of strangers while I had uncontrollable tears running down my face - I pretty much just made a beeline to the car, drove home and started cleaning.  I *think* tomorrow will be better and I won't feel as frantic all day.

First Day projects (yes the ideas are either something I saw on pinterest and copied or stemmed from something I saw on there):

~Picture Frame - It's actually a shadow frame.  Between now and her first day of first grade it will hang on the wall with just her tiny kindergarten hand print.  The idea is that each year I'll add a new hand print in a different color thru her senior year of high school.

~T-shirt:  Class of 2026 here we come - in 12 years.  LOL  The idea is to take her pic in it on the first day of school each year and see how she grows.  I made the appliques and attached them using stitch witchery.  Everything that could have possibly gone wrong in making the shirt did.  Don't ever ask to see the back... not gonna happen.

~Dress:  Made by me, as was the headband, using an up and coming Australian designer's Maya Knit Dress pattern.  (I'm currently a tester for her new patterns... you can find her on etsy here)

~ First Day Teacher's Gift:  A simple vintage mason jar with a small bouquet of flowers that Mia picked out and a note that reads "I'm looking forward to you helping me Learn and Grow this year!"

We are all super excited about this new chapter in our lives - it's just going to take some getting used to as big changes always do.  :D

Last day before...

...Mia starts school!

Today we put aside housework and just enjoyed our day.  We painted, played games, walked to the playground, colored, watched a movie, and just about anything else Mia wanted to do - well, except for skipping rest time...we didn't do that.  LOL

Tomorrow is going to be crazy and exciting and emotional!  (I'm ready for it to be over...)

Last week and last weekend...

...before Mia starts Kindergarten.  It's soooo hard to believe that in just 4 short days my "baby" will be walking into a school building, going into a classroom, finding her seat and beginning her educational journey.  I'm nervous, terrified, pretty much beside myself but in all honesty extremely excited for her (course that doesn't mean that I haven't been kept up all night with my thoughts racing)!

I've been staying busy going thru the board I started on Pinterest so long ago as to ideas for her first day ... the day that felt like it was decades away and yet is here now.... and narrowed it down and gotten to work!  I'm hoping her first day goes as great as possible and that she is completely taken with school and as excited as I am for this next chapter in her life.

Here are some sneak peaks at what I've been working on ... I'll reveal what they are after Tuesday!

The last couple of months I've been busy...

...remembering how much I absolutely love sewing and learning new things.  I've *almost* conquered knits which is something I never used before and I even got picked up by an Australian children's clothes designer to be one of her beta testers.  (Facebook is pretty cool, huh?)  Here are some of the things I've made for Mia lately:

A trip to Alabama, Mia's 5th birthday and the last T-Ball game

Mia and I just got back last week from spending a week in Alabama.  It was a whirlwind week as we tried to fit in plans with everyone possible.  It was crazy busy but definitely fun!

Mia turned 5!  We celebrated with all of our family in Alabama and then she and Ben and I had a "just us" celebration on her actual birthday complete with a trip to Sea World!!!  Generally we get her a membership to something for her birthday but with school starting we decided we would take a family trip to Sea World in San Antonio instead.  We had an absolute blast!!! We were at the park from 10 that morning until they closed at 9.  Unfortunately my phone decided to act up and killed my battery by about noon so there are very few pictures of the day.

The last t-ball game was last night along with a pizza party.  Mia was sooo super excited about her medal!  It reminded me that I had found my medal from t-ball when we were packing the house but I can't remember what I did with it.  I'm going to try and find it so I can show her.

Life is still going well.  We are meeting new friends and finding our way around.  We are all adjusting to the tiny space that is the apartment.  It doesn't seem too bad until I start sewing or Ben is working on his current project but we are all making the best of it.

Ben's job has gotten pretty crazy the last two weeks, but hopefully they will find a balance soon.

Mia starts school in 11 days!!!!
