A mini vacation and another week at school!

Since Mia had 4 days off from school over Easter we packed up and went to the Dallas area.  It was a lovely trip complete with amazing food, LegoLand, Sea Life Aquarium, Grapevine Mills Mall (for my Bama friends - it's much like Opry Mills Mall!), Fort Worth Zoo, Perot Science Museum and a visit to Ben's Uncle and Aunt in Mesquite.

Field Trip Day!!!!!
The entire kindergarten went to Cameron Park Zoo for their field trip.
Thankfully our class had 7 moms volunteer to chaperon so we only had 2-3 kids each!

In other news - our little bird friends from last spring are back and built a nest while we were in Dallas!!!
We figured out they are Barn Swallows and Mia named them Theodore and Callie!

March 24th through April 17th!

It's been a crazy busy few weeks around here.  With school, tball, PTA, craft shows and work life has been zooming by at what feels like lightening speed.  Here are the daily pictures to catch us up!

"Twin Day!"  In hopes of preventing anyone from being left out Mia and I invited all her classmates to dress alike for twin day.  Super easy outfit with their class shirt and blue jeans!  It was a fun day!

Mia's first 5k!  She and I participated in the color run at school that raised money
to provide food for students in need. Mia did a phenomenal job handling having colored dust at her!

So far behind...

I am so far behind on blogging.  With tons of school stuff and gearing up for another craft show I'll catch up soon but probably not this week.

We've had about 3 weeks of sickness around here including Mia's first ever ear infection which has been resistant to antibiotics so far.  We are heading back for our third doctors appointment this afternoon.  She was able to return to school yesterday (finally 24 hours without a fever) but she still can't hear very well.  :(  She cracks me up about her school.  She felt terrible but was still upset with me because I "made her lose her basketball" (the kids get a paper basketball with their name on it put on the wall for the "Never Been Absent").  Needless to say I didn't dare mentioned that she missed crazy sock day too.

We enjoyed a great visit from a Bama friend this weekend and ran ourselves ragged - all the great restaurants, Austin and the zoo kept us busy.   I'll post pics soon!

Sewing Frenzy

Our first 4th of July in Texas was pretty low key.  We decided against attending the fireworks show because it wasn't supposed to start until 10 pm so we played at a splash pad and just chilled.  I have to admit I *loved* that no one shot off fireworks around us.  This is the first year since Mia was born that we haven't had to deal with obnoxious "shows" all night long which led to an extremely grumpy baby and parents.

We definitely made the most of Ben being off for 4 days in a row over the holiday.  That Friday we went and got our cars inspected, registered, licensed and our Texas driver's licenses.  It was pretty much an all day affair because there are so many steps and none of them are in the same department.  We were pleasantly surprised at how efficient each office was run ... and the employees were super friendly and helpful.

We also visited Austin and went to the Austin Zoo.  It's a small zoo but has lots of interesting animals - all of which were rescue animals.  It reminded me a lot of the Chattanooga Zoo.  Definitely worth the drive and going again.

We've had another play date with some of the tball friends and are planning another one for next week.  We also had dinner with a friend of a friend that was super fun! I'm excited to get to know E more.  We ate at the local cajun restaurant and it was delicious and right on the river.

Mia starts school next month so I've been sewing a ton.  So far I've made her 3 pairs of ruffle pants, 3 dresses and 1 skirt (plus I have material for 2 more skirts and have 1 more pair of pants cut just waiting to be sewn).  It has been so much fun.

We head to Alabama for a visit on Thursday and are all super excited!  It will be so nice to see family and catch up with friends.

Legos, Books and Black Bean Fritters

Mia and I built a lego zoo (the pic above is the goose she built), she made a book for her daddy, played at the pool and tried black bean fritters.  As you can see the reaction to the black bean fritters was less than ideal, but she ate it so I'm happy.

Happy Memorial Day!

Tomorrow we go back to the "real world".  We had a fabulous holiday weekend together as a family - tons of pool time, a trip to the zoo and lots of yummy food.
